About aliases and secondary e-mail addresses

How do you define secondary email addresses and alias?
Secondary email addresses are any addresses created beyond the main email address that you were given at the time you signed up for service.

Aliases are simply another name for an email address. For example if your email address is john.doe@centurytel.net you could create an alias of jane.doe@centurytel.net and have it forwarded to john.doe@centurytel.net. In doing this all emails sent to john.doe@centurytel.net and jane.doe@centurytel.net will be sent to the same email account.

Where do I go to add a secondary email address?
Go to www.centurytel.net, click on Account Tools at the top, and select Email Management. Enter the username and password of your Primary Account and select the Manage Mailboxes icon on the screen that appears. Once the new screen comes up click the "Create" button and enter a username and password for the account you wish to create.
What are good reasons or benefits of assigning secondary email addresses?
The most common reason for creating additional email accounts is so each person in the family or business can have their own email address.
Where do I go to add an alias?
Go to www.centurytel.net, click on Account Tools at the top, and select Email Management. Enter the username and password of your Primary Account and select the Manage Aliases icon. From here click the create button and enter the username for the account you want to create and the email address you wish to send these emails to.

The email address to which you are forwarding emails need not be a CenturyLink email address.

What are good reasons or benefits of assigning an alias?
The account name you are given originally will be your email address. For example, if your account name was jdoe then your email address would be jdoe@centurytel.net. Since an account name can not be changed you would not be able to change this as your email address either. However, with an alias you can call jdoe anything you wish. You can create an alias of john.doe@centurytel.net and set it up to forward to the jdoe@centurytel.net account and then you will be able to use the new email address instead of the old one.
How do I, or the secondary email address designee, manage (change) their email address?
Only the primary holder can add/delete/modify the additional mailboxes. This can be done by going to www.centurytel.net, clicking on Account Tools at the top, and selecting Email Management. Next enter the username and password of your Primary Account and select the management operation that fits your needs at the time.

Secondary mailbox holders can change their passwords and other settings directly through webmail.

You only need to know the Primary account username and password that was given you when you ordered your DSL service. The Primary username is the same as the one you use to connect to the Internet.

Secondary mailbox holders can change their passwords and other settings directly through webmail.

What is my Login/Password?
Your login and password are the information needed to access your account. The primary username is given to you at the time you order Internet service. You can then create additional usernames and passwords for additional mailboxes when you create them.
What if I don't know my user name and password?
If you are unsure of your username or password you can Chat Live with a member of the CenturyLink Internet Helpdesk by going to www.chat.centurytel.net or emailing them at support@centurytel.net.
Why did CenturyLink change the way I make changes to my e-mail account?
All changes to your mailbox and secondary mailbox accounts can now be made through a single interface, the EasyMail application. This includes adding, changing, and deleting aliases; forwarding messages to another mailbox; and changing spam filter settings for each mailbox you control.

CenturytTel strives to ensure that our customers are given the tools to empower them to manage their accounts. These tools are another step in supplying customers with the ability to control their accounts online.

What is the difference between Primary and Secondary Accounts?
Your Primary account generally belongs to the person in the home or business that will be in control over the account. This account has the ability to Add / Change / Remove other accounts as needed.

Secondary accounts are mailboxes setup by the primary account holder. These accounts do have the ability to send and receive email but not to add additional accounts or aliases.
